32 law firms worldwide practising Board of Investment (BOI). Narrow down by city to find a firm near you.
A BOI lawyer helps a company apply for investment promotion from Thailand's Board of Investment and then stay compliant with it. Promotion can bring corporate income tax holidays, import duty relief on machinery, permission for majority foreign ownership in otherwise restricted sectors, land ownership rights and easier visas and work permits for foreign staff. Note that the Philippines also has an agency called the Board of Investments, and a few firms on this page work under that system instead.
The rules are specific to Thailand. Eligibility depends on the activity list, minimum investment levels and conditions on technology, location and local value. The Foreign Business Act still applies to anything outside the promoted activity, which catches many foreign owners. After approval, companies must report progress, open operations within a deadline and keep records that match the project.
Firms typically charge a fixed fee for the BOI application and a separate retainer for annual compliance, work permits and reporting. Hourly billing is common for restructuring or disputes with the authorities. Contingency fees are not a normal model here.
Deadlines run through the whole project. Late start of operations, missed reports or unapproved changes to the business can lead to lost privileges. Before hiring, ask which activity category the firm sees for your business, what the conditions will cost in practice, how many BOI applications it has handled in your sector and whether it also handles accounting and visas or partners with others.
